Just returned from our 1st full week away at Oakdene in Dorset...Arrived on Monday morning with some heavy winds and had our first major barny putting the awning up ( poles smashing my wife on the head , poles smashing against the side of the van and denting our pride and joy ).. I must say that I was shocked that nobody offered to assist us !! I had to dismantle my male pride and ask someone one to help, who agreed after putting their awning up at lightning speed and had our poles up in no time. Our new found friends went for a walk, the wind got up and down came all the poles & hard work ... Again, male pride pushed aside and some strong words from SWMBO ( She Who Must Be Obeyed ) ran off again for more assistance. Anyway, to cut a long long story short, managed to grab 4 more couples and had the awning up eventually, from the help of a couple of awning experts ( Gerry & Wife )...After all the problems, had a carefree week, kids had a marvelous time and SWMBO and I now need a HOLIDAY to recover !!! Only another 6 weeks to wait and we're off further afield to Gower, Wales...I'll be posting some small queries in a while about little problems we had with the van and awning...be back soon
Hi Mark & Karen, I think we've all been there at some stage, it can only get better!! Had our awning take off whilst on top of the cliffs at Hastings. Told oh to grab it which she did, top rail, and I'll swear her feet lifted of the ground. Thought she was going para gliding and would finish up in France. I told her she looked like the Angel of the North with her arms outstretched which didn't exactly go down to well..Mick
Good luck with the Gower. Personally I am not a fan of the place. I used to deliver there twice a week and found the roads to be lousy and the general area over rated. I would recommend traveling a little further to Carmarthenshire or Pembrokeshire. Pembrey CC site is fantastic as is the adjacent country park and there are some great beaches between Pendine and Tenby.
thanks peeps, SoundsDigital, we've all got our favourites and we'll live and learn !! We were recommended by some friends whose parents live very close by...If its that bad, they wont be our friends much longer
i have so many fond memories of the gower and am taking our caravan over to wales fo a family wedding in may so we decided to go a day earlier so we could spent a day at port eynon, the gower so let us know how you got on.

Do whats right and right will become of you ;-) Nichola xx
We've just come back from our break and whilst we were away 2 families arrived with a van that they'd only picked up that day. They were opposite us so we saw they were struggling with their awning, so we went over and asked them if they wanted a hand with putting it up. They really appreciated our help and we were pleased to help them so if you're ever up our neck of the woods and need a hand, give us a shout, but I'm sure you will get better each time you have a go, you get into a routine of who does what and when and these awnings are up in no time

We've just returned from 5 days at Dolbryn, at Newcastle Emlyn, in camarthenshire and had a brill. time. Was our first time putting our new full awning up and were dreading it! It went up without a hitch but we did have the weather on our side. We had glorious sunshine everyday and no wind (not even enough for the kids to fly their kites) but not sure how I would feel about putting it up if it was windy.
