Has anyone tried mounting a standard household (perforated) minidish onto a mast that locks onto jockey wheel ?? ... like the ones you get for an aerial (10ft high i believe) ... not sure these are strong enough though ??

I mount my Maplins dish onto one and it's fine, but it is significantly lighter than the sky minidish

Isn't there a chance of damage in windy conditions, due to a satellite dish having more solid area for the wind to push against?

Bertie.

I have a house aerial mounted on a mast on jockey wheel, because the mast is 4 or 5 sections of poles there is a bit of play and top heavy with weight of aerial but top pole has holes in it and you can put a guy rope through it and peg the 2 ends of guy rope to ground to make it stable.

Hi

I've been experimenting with a sky mini dish on a fibreglass pole attached to the caravan.

Mounting the dish on the pole is no problem provided you've got the correct minidish (the cheaper ones on e-bay are not for pole mounting, but wall mounting).

The problem I've had (haven't got it definitely sorted yet - next trip out in June) is that the wind will turn the pole and of course you lose the signal.

My pole is in 3 parts. I have a base which I can peg to the ground with tent pegs so that doesn't move. The problem is with the other connections. I am thinking of drilling through the pole joints so I can put a thin bolt  (or similar) through. I don't want to use metal though as it's close to the caravan.

Any suggestions?

Apart from fairly gusty winds it works fine.

Regards

Tyreman

l use believe or not for my sat dish is the legs off my cement mixer, l drilled a hole in each of the 4 legs, so that l can hammer in a steel peg, this makes it more secure and make aligning the dish more easier.

Thats like the one in Cheshire

Jodrell Bank

The joke when it was built was that they couldn't get labourers as they didn't fancy filling the mixer

We have a camping rotary washing line that is mounted on a tripod.  Each leg comes with a peg to secure in the ground.  We fix the standard minidish with a U-bolt to the bottom part and can mount the washing line above when needed.

Hi
Ive got one of the Maplins dishes that I either mount to a 1 metre length of alloy tubing fitted in place of the jockey wheel,( my flag pole then just drops in the tube as well)
My other alternative is a rotary washing dryer i bought from B&Q for £10. Take off all the line turn it upside down shorten the main pole to make it smaller and use it as a Tripod pegging out the three legs. Works fine
