My wife found some 'hanging shelves' in Poundstretcher - this gives you 3 or 4 compartements to put shirts etc. in and the whole affair hangs from the rail. There's still some space at the side to hand a few trousers/jackets.
As our 'van lives in storage, we take clothes away in a hold-all. The bag fits in the wardrobe and we don't bother to unpack it for weekends - just dump the bag in the wardrobe and dig things out when needed! We do use the hanging space when on longer trips though, and shelves rather than open wardrobe would mean the bag wouldn't fit in there!!
We use our wardrobe but find too many bulky coats get in the way of the shelves, so we bought a hanger for the heavy coats to go in the awning. Shoes go in a plastic box with a lid and also get stored in the awning, very useful when they are muddy.
never use ours for hanging so we took out the rail, now we put the duvets and pillows into it as they are nice and toasty with the fire under. Clothes just get stuffed in a bag - dont really care about being creased as long as they are clean - i'm such a scruffy devil anyway they are always creased within 5 minutes of being put on anyway....!!
I asked the same question last year, and there seemed to be a resounding agreement towards hanging. I'm a shelf person myself, in the house too. Only smart clothes and coats get hung up and I never take smart clothes down the van, no point, never go anywhere!
In the new van I have a long narrow wardrobe, a cavernous cupboard with shelves and two large drawers. I'm like the proverbial pig in doo-doo! Loads of space. I used to have a mountain of clothes, coats, towels all piling up in the old wardrobe, it was who-dares-wins to get at stuff on the bottom without getting killed by the tower falling over.
Mind you, OH keeps saying "You don't HAVE to fill up all the space, you know!".
We use our wardrobe for hanging jackets and trousers, with t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc on the shelves beside it. As the wardrobe is above the fire, damp jackets soon dry off. Shoes go in a little cupboard under the shelves and, as the pipe taking warm air to the loo passes through it, they're kept warm - great for that early morning dog walk, or to dry them off if they get wet.
Anything that doesn't fit there goes in the overhead lockers above the bed - socks, undies, etc.
Our Gtech vacuum also lives in the wardrobe, as does our little IKEA ironing board on its hook. OH sometimes keep a fishing rod for spinning (so it's quite small) there, too.
Under the fixed bed there's masses of storage space so, for a longer trip, I could see a plastic packing crate going there full of shorts, t-shirts, etc once we're pitched up.
I guess it's all down to personal taste.

When we had an end bathroom the wardrobe was next to the box shaped shower so we had a hangning rail in there with 2 strips of awning hooks(5hooks on each) for extra hanging.
For showering the 2 strips complete with clothes were lifed out and hung over the rear pelmet.
I always hang jackets, trousers, skirts, husbands shirts. Sometimes we meet up with friends who live nearby and it's nice to dress up to go out for a meal, I don't think I would want to fold skirts etc. Anyway the space at the bottom of the wardrobe I use for folded items
Wardrobe!!,wardrobe!, what are they, can't get near mine,OH has them all, my kit goes in holdall, and every time we return home, (its I think I take too much), and when away again out it all comes again, gave up trying LOL.regards David
We dont use hanging space either!! With 7 in one van we need lots of space so we have shelved the hanging area with very lightweight wood - its great everyone gets a shelf and one for towels too!
We are now considering getting a second small van for the teens because 4 adult sized people and three small peeps is a tad crowded even in our six berth!
Anyone else ever considered two vans?!!
