All UK built caravans are registered with CRIS since 1992. CRIS therefore have a record, regardless of whether the current owner has paid their £10. Personally, I suspect if you do not pay the £10 and try to sell the van later, it would make it very difficult to sell and certainly knock more than £10 off the value. Therefore, only a fool would not be registered.
I am just about to register our caravan. The Camping and Caravan Club would only insure if we agreed to register. The cost is £32.12 and includes an etching kit and an electronic tag.

Or on building sites? There's a lot of newish caravans to be seen on the motorway building sites, the latest bee in my purple bonnet, cos no-one can get close to check them out. perfect for scammy dodgers?
we got our new van a few months ago and still have not received our cris document. Have called the dealer and he says it can take a while. Is this the case?

We have just registered ours. We had the documents back within a week!! and it cost us just ten pounds. The previous owner had not registered as they weren't entirely sure what it was all about (newbies) so all I had to do was produce a copy of the receipt and pay my money.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
