I would like to confirm what Feecamp has said about the terms and conditions of Multiroom. Thats what we have and last year my grandson, who stays with us and has the second box in his room, disconnected the phoneline to his digibox whilst re-arranging his room. He forgot to reconnect it and a couple of weeks later we received a letter from Sky reminding us that a live phone connection for the same number must be maintained at all times to both boxes for the duration of the multi room subscription. Its a good enough deal for the house but unfortunately means that despite having two digiboxes I would need to buy a third if I want satellite in the van. The previously mentioned site -satelliteforcaravans- is excellent and well worth a visit for anyone considering satellite t.v.
i have multiroom and i take my box away with me the longest has been for two weeks all you do when you get back is connect it and use the call back facility done this for the last two years had no probs
Hi, read all this with interest, I have a question for anyone who feels qualified to answer!
I've just arranged to get a digibox for free from a kind bloke on Freecycle (fab website! I've both given and received). I did this because I have to pack enough as it is, without remembering to take the digibox out of my daughter's room. I thought I'd just be able to buy a dish, set it up down the van, and take my card from home with me to receive all the sky channels. (We currently have Sky+ and multiroom, still within the 12 month contract).
Going on what everyone else is saying, I'm now thinking that my "home" card and the "new" box won't be compatible? What's my best option? I've already got a freeview box in the van, so no point having the digibox just to receive freeview channels.
I don't know about Sky+ as we have the normal digital box. I can't really seem them locking a card to a box. What if you want the latest model Sky+ etc. Would they have to swend you a new card
We have normal Sky and I have to admit for the rare occasions that you want to watch something different to every one else, the extra cost is just not worth it! The way I look at it, you are paying "X" amount for a package which allows you to watch any one of a number of "Y" channels so why should you pay extra to watch another channel when you are already paying to watch it.
Cards are paired to boxes - either standard set top boxes, Sky+ or HD boxes - using the version and serial number of the individual box. Press Services, 4 then 5 to see the details on your own system.
iank01 - Sky+ itself doesn't give you any additional channels and, depending on your chosen viewing package, there's no extra cost for it. (From 1st July there will be no additional cost, regardless of the viewing package - currently you need to subscribe to two or more premium channels, i.e. Sports and / or Movies).
Sky+ is simply a PVR - Personal Video Recorder. It allows you to record one programme whilst you watch another, record two programmes whilst watching either one of them or one you've previously recorded, and it allows you to pause live TV - great for when the phone rings or someone comes to the door, etc so no more missing the end of that film you've been watching for the last two hours! Sky HD boxes are also Sky+ enabled - I just wish we could afford the HD TV for the caravan!!
------------- Best Wishes and Happy Travels,
Feecamp
I'm still confused. So can I use the card from the multiroom box in my daughter's room with the "new" box I blagged off freecycle?
I LOVE Sky+, I've never been one for forraging for a VHS Tape to copy something - now I can just press the button. My kids also love it because we have to go pick up daddy from work every afternoon, and they insist on pausing their fave prog so they can pick up when we get back (although they could also rewind). I have loads of stuff stored on it, its so easy to record something when its late and you REALLY want to watch something but also want to go to bed. I have so much on it, that we were thinking of getting a separate hard drive box with more memory! There's also the series link (I have the whole current series of ER on it at the moment, because I still haven't got around to watching them!)
And as Feecamp says, I really hate it when someone comes to the door or rings right in the middle of something. You can either pause it or just rewind it when they've gone. My kids also like the multiroom, they can watch what they want upstairs while we watch the news downstairs.
