We are still new to all this so apologies if this has been covered before!
We went to Ashbourne in April and had no probs with TV reception, went two weeks later to Filey and could not get anything at all through the Status 315?? aerial, not even a grainy picture. We put it down to bad area and didn't bother about it.
Last weekend we went to Bakewell, and again no signal at all. However the people either side of us using the same aerial were getting decent picture. We assumed it was the aerial that was faulty as the TV works fine in our house. Again we went without tv all weekend which didn't bother me but my OH was gutted!
On arriving home, we plugged everything in again and it worked straight away. We are therefore assuming that even thought the people either side of us were getting a picture we must have been in a dead spot? My OH has now been out and bought one of the long aerial on a pole thingy's as he says he is not going to Cornwall for a week and not watching any TV!!
Have we done the right thing or are we missing something completely obvious???
All suggestions / tips gratefully received

------------- I can only please one person a day, today is not your day and tomorrow doesn't look good either!
Yes go for a house aerial on a pole ( see which way to point aerial looking at other caravans who have set up their directional house aerial on site ) with a mains booster ,don`t use 12 v status booster that comes with caravan to boost signal for house aerial. Also once you have set up aerial on the pole and plugged into tv do an automatic scan on tv for the channels. If you try out tv at home and it is picking up channels ,when you go to another area it won`t neccesarily pick up the same channel on that frequency( different tv transmitter ). So do an automatic scan (most tvs you can automatic scan) for the analogue channels say for example you might pick up 12 analogue channels half might be poor, the channels that are good quality you can change the programme number on ( say scan has picked up a strong BBC1 but it is on channel 8 , rename to 1) . If you want more than the 5 analogue channels maybe in future plug in a freeview box to receive freeview.

Do you suffer from an OCD. Obsessive Caravan Disorder.
welcome,as said no matter where you go,the TV still needs to be tuned in after set up.i cheat a bit when you get there see where everyone else has there aerial pointing, saves time.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Don't bother looking for channel 5 in Cornwall or Devon it doesn't exist unless you have freeview - which makes a mockery of what you were told Michael
I understood that home aerials were produced for each area and identified by a letter (A to F, I seem to remember) these then have to be either vertically or horizontally aligned with the transmitter, so how can one aerial cover every patch of the country?
I gave up on tv aerials and went for a satellite. I can set it up just as quick as an aerial, no worries about digital switch over and no need to retune the tv, just plug into the scart socket.
When the freeview signal is turned up starting next year then even the UFO status ariel will pick it up - at Hargill House and Scarboro you can get freeview throught the standard status ariel. I have the shark tooth ant and it is great for bad signal areas.
