I would take it to your local refuse they usually have seperate bins for all kinds of things, like car batteries, paint, flammable liquids etc....as well as garden rubbish and general household!!! even shoes !!

As for the weights etc.... I was going to look into this too as we need one for France!!

So set it off and have a practice with it - I bet you've no idea what happens when you pull the lever.

When I was involved with a youth organisation we very often set the extinguishers off to give a practical knowledge of how to set one off and what happens when you did (mind you we weren't paying for the recharges )

BTW I'm not sure how long the capsules hold their charge but I have set off a 50s/60s one and that had plenty of pressure.

ONE other thing dry powder extinguishers should be turned upside down and tapped periodically to loosen up the powder - otherwise it wont work properly

Have tried them ten years past their expiry date and they still work. Flares as used by sailors are known to work 30 years past their expiry in 90% of tests. You might be glad of your old ones if your new one runs out.

BTW:

have you got one?
Yes

how old is it?
about 9 months

is it too old?
No

check the use by date
It' got ages to live yet

when did you last check it?
It says not to

will it work if needed?
Hope So. It says not to check it.

what size is it? ie. 6 kgs?
Little one, like most caravans have

is it the correct kind of content?ie.powder
Yes

where do you put it in the caravan?
Hanging by the door

how do you get rid of the old one?
What old one. I didn't have one, thats why I bought this one. I imagine the council can advise you on recycling.

i now have two old ones to get rid of.
Keep them, you might be glad of them if you have a fire, even if they are past the expiry, if they put the fire out, who cares. Just get a new one to be sure.

and should i get a new one?we have non at the moment
Yes, See above.

Two questions; Why the inquisition from someone who cannot be bothered to get one themselves? Remind me not to pitch near you in case you catch fire.
If you do not see the need in having a fire extinguisher, why do you care about chucking the old ones in the rubbish?

had our new caravan 12 months,we got a new extinguisher just before we sold the old one and left it in the caravan, never got round to buying another.question two,yes got to thinking we should have one as soon as possible,so i wondered if other people may not have contemplated getting one.i just thought my questions would give them the idea.the first one we had was 6 years out of date when i checked it.
