hi there we have just joined the c+c club as we read that you can get better rate for pitches plus they are a lot cleaner etc etc. But when we have just recived all booklets etc nothing is any cheaper than we have already been paying so what do people mean when they say you soon get your joining money back by paying cheaper site fees ?
We get age concessions so our site fees are cheaper. There is also a "camping miles" scheme where you get a passport which is stamped when you stay at sites. These add up to free nights over a period of time.
However, we didn't join for the cheaper fees. We joined because it suits us to have a certain standard of campsite guaranteed on club sites and to use the Certificated Sites - which are often very cheap. You need to look in the Big Sites Book for these.
we are a member of both the cc&c and caravan club, we tend to go in the low season for the real benefits and we use the CL sites in the caravan club book as we are able to go away for around £42 for the week. ok the site is basic but its all you need when on hols with plenty to do away from the van
Did you join the Caravan Club or the Caravan and camping club most replys seem to think you joined the caravan and Camping Club. We have been a member for over 25 years of the C.C. AND JOINED BECAUSE THE STANDARD OF sites is very high i.e. not pitched to close together and the sites are always of a very high standard. As you only used C+c I assumed you mean the Caravan Club if not then I cant help you. Sorry
We're in both and, like Fogey, we get the age concession with the C&CC so, as we go on our main holiday in June or July, we only pay about £10.50 a night instead of anything up to £17 or £18. We also get a discount on RAC Arrival with them.
With the CC we get nothing so won't be rejoining this year.
With them both we get the use of the CS/CL sites, so no advantages with one over the other.
I've also had insurance quotes from them both and they've both been higher than elsewhere, so no benefit there.
Regarding the non-member fee - who on earth would stay on a club site if they weren't a member? There are plenty of good non-club sites out there for a darned sight less than the full price plus the non-member fee!
Join both, they are both good to have as holiday places and its good to know if you want to go to a certain area and one is full nine times out of ten the other has space.
If you stayed at a Caravan Club Site and was not a member then you would pay X amount. If you are a member then you pay a lower rate. Thus, if you stay on a CC site as a member you would get your membership fee back in a week or so.
The question you need to ask yourself is:
Would you have stayed on a CC site as a non-member?
We are members of both and thoroughly enjoy our stays as you know what you are going to get. You will on this forum see + & - for both. One tip though: Hard standing on a CC site usually means hardstanding as opposed to plastic mesh in grass.
I booked a site for a few days in July, it's an adult only site in Dorset, and it is a whopping £26 per night. Mind you that's nothing compared to Sandy Balls in Dorset, we are going with our grandson and two westies in Aug and it's £275.50 for the week! It does make me laugh when people say, "at least you have cheap holidays"
Have you considered the Rallying side of things with the Caravan Club?. We have had some cheap, brilliant and fun weekends (and holidays) at a very low price. Rallying on private, club sites and commercial sites with our local centre. You can join in with as much as you like, or just go along and watch what everyboby else gets up to! If you ring the Caravan Club, tell them you want to register with a centre (normally your own county) they will pass your details to the group, who will then send you a Rally book detailing all of the rallies they are doing for the year. You are not confined to rallying with your own centre, but look at the CC website, and view all of the Centre's rallys, that you are eligible to attend.
In the short time that we have been caravanning we have made some good friends rallying. We attended the National Rally held at Blenheim Palace which was brilliant, even with the rain. We have two children who look forward to a weekend rally as they will see some new friends. Most of the rallies organise a social event and or something for the children to do.
We are CC members and joined not for the price of the sites but for the peace of mind we get from knowing the sites will be well kept, pretty peaceful, and not too expensive.
We also have the CC caravan insurance which is good, and the Mayday service.
We book our ferries through the CC at good prices, and we use their Red Pennant Insurance when abroad.
The magazine is interesting too.
Next year we are thinking of also joining the C&CC as we would get the age discount.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
