By the same token, we were actually on a roundabout (no caravan on tow) when a car plus caravan came straight out from a joining road without even slowing down or a glance in our direction, which forced us to do an emergency stop.

I get the same problem when driving my JCB on the road, difference is i dont have to lift off or brake, if i hit them it wont damage the digger front bucket!..
