The route I took to Craig Tarra, Ayre was:

A69 to Brampton,  sign to A689 (M6)    Briefly on M6 then A74,

A75 towards Dumfries

A76 to Cumnock

east on A70

This is not as direct as the A713 but not as hilly.

There are some sections which are hilly and bendy but in general is a nice drive.

Have you tried finding the campsite in the virtual brochure aboeb, click on the big M then enter your post code it will give you a route.

I think it recomends the A74 all way to A20
