We're off to North Devon in about 4 weeks, first time in a caravan but we were there last year with our trailer tent. One of the things that made us buy a van was all the people getting some sleep through the night in their vans while we were still driving. Can anyone recommend somewhere just off the motorway (we're leaving the M5 at J27) where we can lower the legs and get 40 winks without being charged extremely large amounts of money, getting arrested or mown down by errant lorry drivers. We don't mind where we leave the motorway, just as long as we're past Bristol.

how about this one, nr Taunton, just arrive no need to book, and the owner collects the fees in the morning. It may be worth phoning if you are going to arrive very late, as i think a barrier was lowered at a certain time

Cheers for that, but I don't think it's going to do much good as we're arriving about 3 or 4 in the morning. We were thinking we'll probably have to make do with a layby or service station or something. Don't really mind as long as I get a couple hours sleep before the stressful bit of the drive.

Hi Alan,  if you drive up the North Devon link road bit there's a picnic area which is off the link road i imagine this would be ideal and free
