Hi everyone. Is it possible to have a faulty one. I have been caravaning for around 5 years now and always had the old still stabiliser with the blade etc. In may I bought a new pageant burgundy S6 and i thought the new stabilser was better than the old type. I have been away about 7 or 8 times in it but on the last two occasions it seems as though the caravan is swaying around alot. is this just my imagination or could it be faulty. I know if i go back to the supplier they will probably give me some gumph about thats just the way they are etc. It would be good if i could find out some info for some ammunition to sound as though i know what im talking about.
Hi, we have the Bordeaux which is basically the same layout with the middle bit missing. This one tows much better than the other Baileys we've had, but we do have to be very careful with the noseweight and loading balance and can't carry much in the front locker. We never go above 60 mph. Also we don't put anything under the bed as it can back end weigh on one side which can lead to instability. Presumably you have the Al-Ko towball and when hitching up the green button pops up? As a final thought, is the towing bracket really firm, ours had worked loose and no-one thought to check it out at the time. Beyond these ponts, have no ideas for you, sorry.
That's odd. Tyre pressures, pads on stabiliser dirty or worn, wife sneaked in two hundred pairs of shoes, been windy weather? erm, give up, c'mon on folks, give us a hand here. Hope your dealer can sort it, but would check car towing bracket and see it if does move just in case.
When it comes to an unstable outfit I would suggest that the stabilisor is the LAST culprit. All caravans should tow perfectly well without one. If it doesnt, there is something wrong....and it's NOT the stabilisor
The stabilisor should only come into it's own in fairly extreme situations....ie. draught from passing vehicles....high wind gusts...undulating road surfaces etc.
It will, of course, dampen mild sway and pitching in all normal circumstances but that isn't really the purpose.
You haven't put grease on your tow ball at some point have you? I know it's obvious to most people here, but if you have only just got the AlKo after five years with the blade, you may not be aware.I assume you are doing the thumb wheel up correctly or it would never have worked. Also check everything is bolted up tightly. While I agree that a stabiliser is not intended or capable of stabilising an unstable outfit, the original post did not say when these bouts of instability are occurring, so it's not fair at this stage to condemn it to poor loading. I assume you are not loading any differently to the first few trips when it towed correctly? Tyre pressured could have altered, but again, I don't wish to accuse you of failing to check them, I'm sure you are an intelligent person. You have a caravan after all Other than that, clutching at straws now check the wheel nuts are tight, check car tyre pressures, although they would effect you driving solo too if they are low, but should be increased when towing and low tyre pressures on the car will give exaggerated symptoms when towing.
There's not much to go wrong in the stabiliser other than worn or contaminated pads so a faulty one is unlikely.
thanks for that, i havent put grease on towball but i will double check all pressures and nuts etc. as i was saying we havent done anything different from the previous occasions that we have towed including the loading. maybe it is just my imagination, lol
