We're off to France on Monday. How long do you reckon it takes for a caravan towing newbie to tow from Bristol to Portsmouth ? M4/A34/M3/M27 with manic children onboard...and wife ? Allowing for a stop ?
Traffic permitting about 2 1/4hrs plus your stop. There is a large service area at Newbury just as you leave the M4 onto the A34 it's well signed. I reckon thats about half way. Remember also you need to be at the ferry port about 1 hour ahead of sailing time. There is toilets and cafeteria there.
I travel from Fareham to Bristol quite often via that route and without towing and also stretching the limits a little it takes about two hours.
Add on to that the fact that you are towing, plus half an hour for a stop (even a quick wee break takes about twenty mins once you have found somewhere to park with your van) and I think that you should allow just over three hours.
That might be a little generous, but if you have to check in by a certain time it isn't worth being late is it?
Hi all, sorry to hijack the thread but we're due to go to Rookesbury Park CC site at Fareham, next Sat for 2 weeks. Mike please could you let us know what the weather is like and if there's any flooding in the area?. We are travelling from Lancashire and are hoping we'll still be able to make it.
Had our share of rain, but seems to be easing off.
Ground is very springy underfoot but doesn't squelch as you cross it! Will probably be dried out by the time you get here - we're forecast good weather from about a week's time - fingers crossed!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
