just booked for next easter (yeah we work well ahead!), to stay in Truro for a week.

We leave near Preston and would ask for any recommendations for a one night stop over en route please. Somewhere along the M6, perhaps as far down as south Birmingham? Our kids can't do that long in the car! Approx 3.5 hours.

CC or affiliated would be good??

any ideas please?

Don't know your reason for staying near Birmingham but thats not very far from your home, about 100 mile at a guess. Why not try and get a bit further. Theres a club site at Tewksbury which is just a very short distance from the M5 junc 9. Thats about 150 mile from Preston so is nearer half way to Truro.

Simply called, Tewksbury Abbey, Tel. 01648 294035. Just follow signs for Town Centre and it's right behind the Abbey. Easter will be popular so book early.

Hi M & K. try the Tudor caravan park, close to Jn13 M5 south of Gloucester, but very peaceful, pub adjacent, breakfasts in canal-side cafe 100yds.  I'd advise getting as far down the road on the 1st day as is reasonably practical as once you get into Cornwall your average mph will take a dive. All the best. Del.

I have done Cornwall many, many times from just north of Manchester.

Best travelling time IMO is Friday from mid afternoon on. Very heavy traffic on M6 + M5 near Bristol but otherwise OK especially South of Bristol.

Our standard format has been to motor all the way down ( breaks as & when required ) to somewehere just after Indian Queens ) normally just before Perranporth and deck down on an A30 layby or CL if your lucky enough to get one for just one night.

Then onto your booked site Sat morning to miss the A30 carnage.

If you travel down Saturday the traffic is a nightmare and you be unlikely to get there by teatime. I had this confirmed by a friend who went down last Saturday and was stuck on the A30 for hours & hours.

In  the last 2 weeeks we travelleed from notttingham down to mevagissey. we left on sunday mid day, stayed overnight at exeter cc racecourse site. on monday travelled to mevagissey. very relaxed journey. we had not done this before whilst towing, but had heard of nightmare journeys by others. exeter racecourse was brill, we have a dog and there were no races on so we walked the course, 2 miles, excellent break. our only regret was to follow the a38. in retrospect the a30 would have been better. more dual carria`geway and less up and downs. we found this on return, which only took us 6 hours.
