the way we are going will be via the M62 -M6 from Halifax but the option I sometimes go via skipton and kirby lonsdale less monotonus and very scenic if you don't mind the fuel consumption and time difference

Depends exactly what side of Leeds etc but if you use www.viamichelin.com it tells you Leeds-Dumfries 159 miles (2hours 54mins) via A1/A66/M6 and 187 miles (3hours 9mins) via M62/M6 - put your postcode in and will give you fairly accurate figure - I always use this site for journey planning including UK and Europe and its pretty accurate with its timimgs.

We live only few mins from A66 and its normally a easy run between Scotch Corner and M6 connection at Penrith and on to Dumfries and Galloway, however doing some roadworks at moment so could add a few minutes to normal journey time.

I came up from Harrogate a couple of weeks ago, via the A66, and it was pretty slow going over the first bit where they're upgrading to dualcarriageway.

I would check the mileage and if there isn't a huge difference, then surely the M62 has to be quicker as you can maintain a good steady speed.

There were also temporary lights at Temple Sowerby with the bypass construction.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!
