While we were set up last week i had a strange feeling about how "private" our pitch looked. We have Five dogs & if anyone comes near us, they will bark (as any good guard dog should) so we "fence" ourselves in with windbreaks. But as i was walking back from the showers i realised that it looks a bit pretentious. OH GOD, what a dilema!

I wouldn't worry as i think you paid for your pitch so why not use it how you wish. It doesn`t stop you from talking and socialising if you want to. The last site we stayed on the neighbours fenced themselves in and i didn`t think any less of them for doing so. Personally i don't know why people worry about what others do with their pitch.

I have to add your DDB in your profile is gorgeous

I don't think there is any danger of windbreaks looking pretentious!  No offence, but they look quite the opposite of pretentious to me!

Lots of people like to fence themselves in for one reason or another and that's entirely up to them.  In your case, I don't suppose it would go unnoticed that you have five dogs.  Other campers and caravanners (like me) can easily be put off from initiating social contact though - just in case the windbreak owners have deliberately chosen to isolate themselves.

So, as long as you smile and spontaneously greet people from behind your fence, you should be fine!!!
