wow, what a difference to camping in a tent!!  i felt like it was 5* luxury, even though it's a 19 year old van!  (who the kids have christened LULU) lol.

towing was fine and setting up much easier than i had thought it was going to be ... i had the kettle on within 20 mins (though i admit that's without putting awning up).

thank you to the lovely couple next door to me who answered numerous questions and helped me out.  also to the lovely man who was on his way to the shower, saw me struggling with the awning and stopped to help.  people are SO friendly.

i have left the caravan on site for now, until end october as i just loved the site and will definitely be going back there again (hopefully friday).

only problem was being on my own with four kids, going for a walk in the forest and getting totally lost - eek!  had to flag down a passing lorry driver on the only road i could find for directions back to the site - very embarrassing!  i had visions of having to call the police helicopter out!

so all in all, a great success and the kids loved it.

i've got some questions (as ever) but i shall put those on a different thread.

Hi AJ

glad you had a good time, you're braver than me going it alone with four kids in tow , but well done to you, and all these little things add to your experience, as you say there is always someone out there to help.

by the way where did you take the van?

thank you winnie1 - i WAS very nervous but the site owners were so helpful and friendly.

i went to thetford forest (puddledock farm).  it was just lovely - nicely spaced out between units and beautifully kept.  the showers were immaculate (i have no shower in my van), there was a large play area and it was very peaceful.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves, my kids called our first van Sally. Now on my fourth van in 15 years I would like a sticker to put on the back of my van that says  Sally  iv

Well Done , The Addiction is now starting , once you get bitten by the caravan/camping bug there is no going back .

I hope you and the kids have plenty more pleasant outings  ,

Tip  - Get yourself a small sat nav , very handy for those lost moments

Hi AJ, pleased all went well for you. I find people are really friendly and helpful when I'm 'vanning on my own with the kids (normally only 2 but have done 4 once or twice when friends & family kids come too). Hope you all get the 'bug' and enjoy loads more holidays with Lulu
