are storm straps only for your awning ? or are they really meant for the caravan .

im thinking of getting some but dont think we'll be using the awning until next year now, we did use it over this weekend but its getting too wet to take it down and put it away.  It was blowing a gale, bucketing it down and pitch black when we did it on friday night and said not again
