Does anyone know where I can get hold of either a new Sunncamp Contempo or a good condition second hand one? Been looking on Tinternet and cant find one.
The Contempo has been discontinued. I was looking for one a couple of months ago with no success and so contacted Sunncamp who told me it is discontinued. There have been some on Ebay though........
It is a great awning. Ours has been used for nearly two years - non stop - in some very rough weather but is now looking a bit the worse for wear. Hope you manage to get one - they are great. Never had any problem with it fitting against the van - unlike the Ultima.
The only other awning we had prior to the Contempo was the Sunncamp Scenic. It was OK but damaged the sides of our brand new Avondale(GRHHHH!) as the horizontal pole that wraps around the top drummed against the walls of the van in the night in high winds.
That problem could not occur with the Contempo. We have decided that we will get a traditional porch awning. Not so easy to handle or to dry, but we cannot see anything out there we would use. The Ultima is not bad if you are on really level ground, but we have seen so many which just do not sit anywhere near the van side when on any sort of slope. The the rain drives in etc............
Well we have the Ultima 260 and have never had a problem with it at all. We have had 3 sodden weeks at our van this year along with numerous weekends and it has stood up admirably to the wind and rain. I am talking torrential rain, day and night, day in day out back in May and again late June early July.
Yes you have to peg it under the van ideally to get a tight fit against the side and in the very worst of the rain after 3 or 4 days non stop we had a couple of drips on the seam close to the van and awning rail but knocked the excess water off of it and it stopped.
We have the kitchen out in the awning, ie the microwave, coffee maker and steamer and whilst we are very careful with the cables etc not once were we in fear of them getting wet.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Ultima and unlike the Scenic it is much squarer giving more useable space. Scenic owners have come up and told us they wished they had bought the Ultima.
We briefly had a Panorama XL before we exchanged it for the scenic.
We also had water pool on the roof of the Panorama. When we spoke to the supplier (Homestead) they said our caravan's awning rail height was too low for the Panorama even though it fell between the min & max height range specified by the manufacturer. Homestead were great and exchanged it no problem. That was a couple of years ago though.
With regards the Ultima, I am sure there must be 1000's happy customers as you see loads around

I dont know anyone who has had a Panorama that did not pond on the roof.
The dealer is talking b at llox!! Even with the sides at full stretch to the floor, it still hold water.
I am just flabbergasted that Sunncamp would produce a well selling porch awning, which customers were happy with, with no competition of an equivalent model in size and quality and they with draw it from sale!
Just seems madness to me.
So seeing as Sunncamp have stoped doing the contempo, looks like the ultima is the one to go for.
Thanks for all you advice, and if you do see a contempo or know of a second hand one for sale please let me know.
