well, what a great weekend, left friday early afternoon heading for the ranch caravan club site at maybole ayrshire. van was as solid as a rock on the way down, kept it to a strady 50mph and she never moved an inch in the wrong way got on site and was a struggle to reverse onto pitch but another bloke and hsi wife helped with some more muscle. van setup no probs and got her nice and level and that 1st brew was bliss everything worked as intended apart from the tv, either my 15 year old portable that was lying for 10 years is knackered or the flying saucer ariel is useless. great to have the luxury of light and power and my wee 1000w fan heater was braw. really missed the 4am walk in the rain to the loos though (NOT). totally delighted with the rig and she was solid coming home plus my confidence in towing is growing, the almera did its job great without struggling on the hills

even had the good company of papa pip and nana joan on the saturday

once again a massive thanks to everyone on UKCS for their advice and help, it means so much to me. needless to say I will probably have more questions

Yep, they are pretty much useless, did you have the amplifier switched on? It does make a bit of difference.

Cheers

Hello there!  That's great news, I am all miserable as our van is now covered up and asleep until next March, harrumph.

Good old Almera, glad it is towing well, bet you have to use the gears a bit though!

We removed our aerial, it was cack and couldn't get a signal at all.  Bought a household aerial and a metal pole from the curtain department in Trago and some cable and OH made up an aerial lead.  We use the old base from a surround sound system, place the pole in it and mount the aerial on the top and it is good as gold.

We bought a blanking plate and property sealed up the roof aerial hole so it has totally gone now.

Steve

well done alan

really please you enjoyed your first trip away with the caravan. I told you towing it would be easylol

Papa rang me last night and gave a glowing report on what sounds to be a very nice , clean caravan.

look forward to meeting up next year.

oh you can still go for that 4am walk if you wish  lol.

We have the same ariel, did you push it right up, you also need to turn it around, whilst looking at the telly to check the picture, to see if you are pointing in the direction of the signal, and also I think there are two pieces of metal that pull out either side of the dish, you may have needed that, you sometimes don't get a good signal if you have a lot of high trees around, normally we get a very good picture, though our telly is only 1 year old, and we also have a freeview box.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. I thought the reception in Scotland was pretty bad generally something to do with all those lovely hills.  We took a sat dish with us, just so we could see the weather, well that's the only thing we ended up watching, too busy having fun the rest of the time.  I hope you have many many more happy trips.

Valerie

well done, back home safe       or the flying saucer ariel is useless

its the position of caravan sites in the main.reception on these is bad or good no inbetween .for this reason we now have a aerial puller cost about £15.to add to this an outside aerial is best.i tend to check with the top one and if no joy get out the outside one out.not every one knows and i found out by mistake that the tv must be tuned in at every site.
