Hi Selued
All is not lost.
I have a friend with a Picasso, they have a folding camper, which to all intents and purposes is a caravan.
He has the added bonus of being able to store it in his garage.
Have a word on the FC forum.

If you look at older caravans they were much lighter. I used to have a 1991 Sprite Musketeer 4 berth that was 900 Kgs Max weight. It's from the mid 90s onwards that they have started to get heavier.------------- Caz

My Adria 400b is within your weight limit. It's a 1991, basic model i.e. no cooker, shower or hot water but it does have an electric flush loo, 3 way fridge, 4 ring hob & grill. It's a 4 berth (big double at front, single and bunk at rear) In my opinion it needs the extra space that the awning provides for any stay longer than a weekend. We love ours, tows like a dream, easy to move if you have to push it around.
Don't dismiss any of these lighter weight 'oldies' they're definitely worth a look.

the 900kg limit is wrong--the car weighs 1215kg so even sticking to the 85% rule (which is not a legal requirement, just a guide)your max caravan weight is 1032kg--if you look in your car handbook it will give the the makers max towing weight--the Xsara Picasso is a popular towcar-- ------------- Every day should be a holiday!

My Elldis was so close to my old Xantia's max towing weight I had to weigh all our kit as it was getting loaded,
85% is a guide line. I think from memory my fully laden weight for the above was about 93%. Under no circumstances should the van exceed the car.

Don't forget that your max tow weight will be when you have everything in it, so you have to allow for that, and also you are always advised to tow at 85% of the max towing weight, so it looks like you will need to change your car. That's why lots of people have the 4 x 4 's who tow caravans. Expensive but necessary!
