i bought the 1 from lidl in the suitcase ( silvercrest brand) it is perfect. comes set up for astra 1 but you can change it and it works a treat. as for the 1 from maplins in the cardboard box it is a fortec star product who are a very reputable set up. the dishes used by the bbc for broadcasting from the gulf are fortec brand.
just 1 last sad fact. i manufacture the box for the fortec 1 sold in maplins so please go out and buy it i could do with a re-order.
My Maplin decoder is a Comag, but I beleive it is identical to the Silvercrest SL65/12. It is also badged with a few other brands apparently.
Maplins. There is one for £10 but needs another box, so I got the one for £20 which works great. Just remember to run the coax from the rf2 socket and to switch on the socket 9v supply.
Consider a Sky TV Link/Eye - This innovative product allows you to receive Sky Digital in 2 rooms using existing co-ax cable... Watch the same channel on 2 TVs at the same time, and use your Sky remote to change channels from another room. Available from Sky.com, Maplin or considerably cheaper online from Argos (around £15 - cat no 534/3250)
Consider getting "Sky Multiroom" - Effectively this is a second Sky Digital box fed from your main dish. This allows you to watch two different satellite channels at the same time in different rooms. Details and prices at packages.sky.com/see/EquipmentMultiroom.aspx
Re cable through window, I bought a special connection from Maplin which goes flat and alows you to shut the window without damaging either the cable or the window.
Someone may have already posted this but I went straight to the end
i was told by sky when i got my freesat card that if the box is left unplugged for more than a fortnight , then you have to reactivate the card by phoning sky again

Slightly off topic but close!
I have a "feesat" card in my box.
Last weekend while away in the van, I could'nt get channel 4, I got 5 and all the usual channels I normaly get.
Any ideas anyone?
thanks
Tim
Yep. Try switching off the sky box at the mains, leave for a couple of minutes, switch on again and all should be back to normal after the usual short delay in getting tuned in. I find this works for most "sky box" problems. Also works for computer and most things complicated.
Good luck Tim (sorry I've just noticed that you've had a reply to this effect - did it work?)
