Hi . if your warranty has run out and you don't get the caravan serviced one year does this mean your water ingress guarantee doesn't stand . i thought the water ingress was an entirely separate issue . warranty is for two years water ingress for 5 years .
according to one company if you dont get the van serviced your water ingress guarantee doesnt stand.
They usually state that the condition of the van is checked by a dealer for that make. I have seen other posts here that state that consumer protection legislation gives a six year period for the goods being fit for the purpose i.e. not letting water/damp in. Our van is due for its first service and we don't want to take it back to the original dealer, so we are travelling to moorland leisure for its first service. We could get it serviced up the road, but for warranty reasons we'll play safe.
Almost certainly you will, at the very least, have to have an annual inspection. I can't see many dealers being prepared to do that and not do a full service!!! Or perhaps they would just charge to same amount as a full service.
The dealer we got our van from went bust and there is no other dealer nearer to us so we will have to go to another the next one is miles away so we would have to travel a long way. but another caravan dealer has stated that the water ingress guarentee is worthless if you dont get the van serviced. i thinkhe is wrong as a warrenty is for two years and the other is for five years. i am going to ask the maker who my caravan if from. i will let you know..
The water ingress warranty on my Compass says very clearly that to maintain the warranty for five years the van must have a full service for EVERY one of those five years.
When I collected our new Sterling in July the dealer made a point of telling us that the caravan must be serviced according to the manufacturers timetable otherwise the water ingress warranty is void.
We also signed a form for the handover (a copy goes to Swift) stating that the warranty terms had been explained to us, and we accepted them.

IMHO just another rip off con. Whether or not the chassis is serviced and cupboard doors checked would have no bearing on any water ingress problem. Under the SOGA the dealer would not be able to squirm out of it easily as they would have to prove that the water ingress problem was caused because the caravan was not serviced regularly. I wonder how the dealer would prove this? Perhaps othe4r forum members can offer an opinion.
I agree. if a cupboard door falls off or the cooker goes wrong etc what has that got to do with the seals ? exactly... nothing. i think its a con to get you to buy extra warranty. lucky for me this is my second van by the same maker so i am very confident this van will stand the test of time same as my last one.i still have not looked at my guarantee so ill go look and see what it says.
i have had a look at my guarantee and as far as i can understand the guarantee says nothing about the warranty .the caravan does have to be inspected once a year by a specialist workshop approved by the manufacturer but for the seals not the warranty. so warranty is a separate issue , it must be. the warranty is for parts in the first two years . the guarantee for water ingress is different.
