My van is sited on a private site and open March to Oct and the van stays there over the winter while it is closed.

The owner said as my van is under a tree I should move it away from it for the winter incase the tree falls down or any of the branches fall off unless I am insured.

Does that not come under the site insurance? Surely the owner of the site should be insured for these problems?

Or does it come under my van insurance?

Most sites - either parks or storage sites - say that caravans are left at owner's risk and that they should be covered by the caravan owner's insurance.

At least that way you know what is covered and you can make sure you have the most appropriate cover for your unit.  You wouldn't expect not to have to insure your car if you were leaving it in a carpark and your caravan is exactly the same.

I would expect that you could claim against the site owner's insurance if something that was their fault caused damage to your caravan, but a claim regarding falling branches from a tree you'd been warned to move away from probably wouldn't be entertained.

ahh right thanks for the advice I am going tomorrow to close it up for the season so I will move it away from the tree, as the tree is leaning over so better to be safe than sorry.
