I'm taking my caravan in on saturday for some warranty work. I usually take everything out, but it can take half a day, and its cold and dark now, so how much "stuff "can I leave in?
Crockery, folding chairs, hoover, cleaning stuff?
Anybody leave it all in?
Cheers
Paul

I was told by Long Eaton Caravans, that they like to have clear access to the wallboards in the back of the lockers in order to carry out a proper damp check

Our tourer days are over and we have moved on to a Hobby Motorhome
we were told last time that the cupboards all need to be empty (inc bathroom, overheads etc) so as we would have to climb over the folding chairs, wind breakers, etc we just emptied all. i suppose its because they need to check for damp and basically want it to be as easy as possible. i suppose it takes less time and then they can do more services per day
I was told by one of my local dealers that not only does it give them better access to everywhere, it also avoids any possibility of anything going missing if there is nothing there to go missing - I guess they've had their fingers burnt over someone's property not being all there when they got their van back so they're covering their backs. They insist that the van is completely empty whatever it goes in for.
If your dealer isn't bothered, then I would take out anything that lives in the gangway and all the stuff that's near where they need to work, plus anything of value and anything I would hate to be parted from, just in case.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I used to work in a garage and could often spend half a day emptying peoples car boots and replacing everything after doing a small welding job. It could often take 10 times longer moving all the stuff around than actually doing the job. It always makes me laugh when I see someone with enough junk to fill a skip spread out on the hard shoulder to get to their spare wheel, as I've been there myself. Its even worse in the dark, because you end up putting all the junk back in the boot after and leave the only thing of any use on the road.
last time I took my van in for a minor repair inside the van, they wanted everything taken out including the beds etc, they told me that way they could not be accused of marking the seats, or causing any other damage to the inside of the van, they also said that if it was empty, then they could not be accused of loosing anything from the van, I also had to remove gas bottles battery and mains lead and step, the good news was I found lots of items that had been put in the van over time, that did not need to be in the van, so at least the van had a good clear out
------------- "PACESETTERS" German Shepherd dog display team, we are out and about raising money for guide dogs.
We had ours erviced about a month ago, and eft the whole lot and not one compliant, all the covers were still clean as well, i may think twice about using somewhere like that?
Knowing British workmen (no, we're not all the same but) I'd make sure there is good access to where they need to work. The easier the access the better a job you're likely to get done.
So for a service, yes pretty well empty so you get a good damp survey, but if it's just for the water pump talk to the dealer (it could be just the pump replacement or include access to electrical wiring etc).
And it'd be rather silly to tempt people if you have any "goodies" on board.
We take most of the stuff out, the dealer said they prefer easy access to all the parts they need to get at, if they have to move stuff out it costs you more! They don't mind a few bits in it.
Our local dealer is excellent- Salop caravans at Cosford, really nice people and very helpful, (as is their branch in Shrewsbury.)
No I don't work for them, just like to give credit where due!
