I would like some advice re the underside of my caravan, I recently bought an 20 year old Avondale that has spent nearly all its life on the same site and has hardly been used on the road for touring, the underside of the caravan is in very good condition can anybody advise me if I need to treat it in anyway and what I should use as I would like to use it next year for touring the UK, Many thanks for your assistance.

Check metal areas for any local rust spots, and treat with an anti-rust paint. If galvanised metal, then paint with a galvanised-based paint.  If already painted, touch uptreated spots with similar coloured car paint.

Wooden areas (floor underside) can be treated with a wood preservative, but ensure it is not splashed onto pipes, wiring, tyres, or other mechanical parts.

Bertie.

If it has been standing for a number of years I would make sure you do a full overhaul of the brakes, hubs and linkages.  I doubt they were greased or serviced as they weren't being used.  Hope the repairs work out and you can get out and enjoy your van.
