Hi,

Storage problem.  The storage site I am on I seem to be getting alot of flies entering under the sun roof.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Only most of the vans on site seem to have flies in the windows.  I am now looking elsewhere and the option I have is an outside field for £240 or undercover storage for £330.  I am concerned if I choose the field would I then have problems with damp.  Can anybody advise what the best action would be?

We decided to protect our caravan (our first) by using undercover storage and elininate as much of the damp problem as we can. It has only been in storage since September but we are very pleased with the service offered. We do pay alot more for the privalage  though (£490/year). But we decided that it was money well spent having spent a thousands of pounds on our pride and joy.

we use a site that is outside with hard standing no problems,

we have also used a storage in a grass field with no problems

other than in this kind of weather it got a bit muddy

Personally, I would wholeheartedly recommend undercover storage.

Provided the indoor storage has good airflow, it does have many benefits:-

  • The outside of the caravan stays free of green/black staining.
  • The upholstery is protected from sunlight, without needing blinds/curtains.
  • You can hitch up/unhitch in all weathers.
  • Caravan is on dry surface, no grass growing, no dampness.
  • Less likely invasion of insects/fieldmice.
  • The tyres are protected from UV deterioration.
  • The caravan is more protected from freezing.
  • You may be able to keep other equipment under/behind your caravan, out of the weather i.e. roofbox/bike rack etc,.

and best of all, it keeps your caravan from ageing and hopefully you would recoup some (or all) of the additional storage costs when you come to sell.

I would always prefer hard standing for storage. I would expect to pay more for this facility.

Thnx.

I have decided against the grass field and looking for hardstanding.  How difficult can it be to find hard standing !!!!  Fed up with looking.
