Hi I have a Vauxhall Frontera and we have a Alko 2700 stabiliser, we have got a problem as in every time we hitch up our caravan, my husband has to take our spare wheel off of the back of the car because you cannot hook the caravan onto the car with it on.  We have a detachable towbar and wondered if anyone knew of any ways around this problem without changing our towbar to a longer model.  We have just been told that we could get a Alko 2004/3004 with a new handle on it.  My husband did try a Winterhoff stabiliser which would have solved the problem but it did not fit our caravan because it only had 1 bolt hole instead of 2.  We would be grateful for any ideas on this.

i had the same prob with my fron. i opened the door first, then hooked up. it is a struggle, the jocky wheel handle gets in the way, but i did mangage, Then i got the new  swift conqueror, so same time got a new tow bar. U can take the handles off the alko and put a short one on it.. oh i also opened the front locker for the door to open farther.

we have a fronty as well but luckily we can get ours on without touching the wheel but my hubbys uncle who has an older fronty than us has taken his spare wheel off and put it in the boot on a permanent basis.  Before we got our last caravan we thought that we'd have to take wheel off as well and asked about it and it was suggested we could get another handle (which at £30 odd is a bit dear) or we could just take off the handle and use without.  Luckily not had to do that

When I had a Trooper, I took the plastic handle off & left it in the boot. Just put it back on to hitch up. Could still be a pain though depending on the angle of the car. Sometimes had to open the rear door when hitching up.
