I've had a Trailer tent for the last year or so, and would now like to change to a Caravan. It's for me, my wife, and two boys aged 6 and 4, who won't sleep together, so bunks are probably best for them!
We didn't want to spend too much, about £1500 max, but less if possible. We don't mind too much about 'retro' looks (we have a 1980 orange and brown Conway TT!), as long as it's clean and tidy.
I've seen this ebay item, and would appreciate your opinion:
It looks like a great starter van suitable for your needs and there seems to be alot of interest so I'm not sure if it'll stay under your budget for long as we sold an 1989 5 berth van last year for £1000. Have you thought about going to view it prior to maybe putting in a bid to check for faults or damp? I would watch it and see how the bidding goes as there are over 3 days left on it.

We have a 99 swift classic corvete that looks very similar.
We think its a brill van having had it 2 years now. It is well designed and suited our needs perfectly however the kids have grown a lot in 2 years and they will soonoutgrow the back bunks but they are 15 & 13, the eldest daughter is about 5ft 10.
If there are any specific questions you have i can try to answer from our experience. They also have a owners club that perhaps you could tap into for info Swift Owners Club - Public Pages
i seriously doubt that you are going to get any caravan of that age for £1500 unless it has some problems i.e. damp and then you dont mind doing a lot of the work yourself to put it right, it would be such a shame for you to be put of caravanning if that was your first experience of it. good luck in your search though, as a more realistic price for that van will be anything upwards of £3000 -£5000
Sorry to see the auction has ended early, must have had a good offer.
Do you have a local dealer close to you?
We had one years ago that did not want older vans in part ex. If you left him your details and roughly what you were after he would pass the info on to anyone wishing to sell an old van in part ex and you could agree a sale between yourselves thus eliminting the middle man.
I think he must have, just before it went off it had gone up to £2100, I'm sure you'll find something soon and within budget as well, just keep looking
