Can anyone let me know if/how you use the elctrics in the van without any hookup?.
Can we just pull into a service station and say boil the ketle without an electric hookup?
Any advice welcome!

I Would not advise this behavior as its
illegal to use a naked flame on Service Statons
Any advice welcome!

Al is right, on most service areas they say gas must not be used. That's partly for safety but mainly because they want you to buy their extortionately priced hot beverages.
Belinda, the heater and water heater run off mains, not 12v. They may have 12v connection for igniting the gas, unless they have a piezo ignition system.

Most of our lights work off of 12 volt, the others from mains. Our heater and hot water work on either mains or gas, whereas the fridge works on mains, gas and 12 volt. I think a lot of caravans are like this.
We quite often stay on pitches without hook up and have no problems.

The only part of the heater that runs on 12v is the airflow system (don't leave it on unless you are on EHU as it drains the battery quickly). The main heat generation is either 230v or Gas. Hope this helps,------------- Alec & Family
