I've just come back from a few days away but unfortunately, I scraped the offside rubber strip on the large gatepost on the way in.  This has damaged the rubber strip and crushed the aluminium strip that holds the rubber in place.  The aluminium strip appears to be mastic sealed to the side of the caravan.  It lloks like a new aluminium strip and rubber.  There doesn't appear to be any damage to the side of the van.  Is this a repair I can do or would you take it to a repairer?

Hi, usually there is a joint in the aluminium sheet behind the strip, try removing the rubber insert, and see if the strip is screwed to the van, if so it's just a case of removing the strip and replacing it with a new one, the mastic you see is probably to seal the joint,

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much 'The Welder10'.  I thought this may be the case but I wanted to discuss it with others to check.

Dave.

Hi, it's not really a big job, and it's always worth checking the other strips for cracked mastic, i've got to remove my awning rail this year and reseal the joint,it's not leaking but we had some rough winds last year, and the awning took a battering.

good luck.
