Hi all recently purchased a 1990 lunar clubman 500-4 paid £2000 for it around 6 month ago and used it twice, have now decided to purchase a 1999 clubman from a dealer. The thing is he came to look at mine and has offered me a grand for it as he says it is wet when he did a damp test.

Now there is one small area by the door that needs a small repair, but he said that whole side had gone i watched the lights on his meter fly up into the red all down the wall.  I have purchased a cheap tester myself and apart from the area i mention where my cheap meter screams at you, every where else is just a low audible noise or click and really does not seem that bad and the walls feel pretty much solid not spongy could it really be as bad as he leads me to believe.

It is cold and damp outside anyway i even got a low reading on an interior table in the van which certainly is not damp a little cold maybe but not damp if the van was stood there in June i feel the results would be very different.  What do you think should i ask for more against a £7000 2000 clubman.

Hi Dazzer

Take it to another dealer and ask for a PX quote, if he tells you the same then you know it is probably true.

Alternatively get a mobile caravan service outfit to give you a damp check.

Cheers

Paul

We just sold our 1991 caravan privately.  The chappie that came to see it told us that 3/4 of the one side was damp but we thought he was just trying it on to get the caravan cheaper, but he showed my husband where the damp was and it was actually crumbling in his hands.  We were lucky, he said he would buy it if we dropped the price and he would do the work himself. We have only owned a caravan for two years so we are quite inexperienced, we could not smell the damp so thought there was none there.  Maybe you might have better luck selling it privately.
