Do any of you use a laptop as your telly in the Caravan. I use mine for the kids to watch DVDs but have been thinking of leaving the portable at home, buying a tv card for the express card slot on the laptop and using that instead. Is this common practice? What are the pros and cons etc...

You need a good aerial is the con. These USB stick TV tuners, both analog and digital, all work great if you can get a strong signal, and the little space ship omni directional aerials that are fitted to most caravans are next to useless.

That said I managed to get my USB Freeview stick working on my laptop using the caravan's aerial over the weekend, but I was less that 5 miles from the main N.Wales transmitter and had line of sight. With a good signal it works a treat, as good as watching it on a normal telly.

I too took my laptop with me caravaning last week, I picked it up a tv receiver from Novatec in Havant  http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?LEA-DVBT it just plugs into the usb port and you have a little arial to place by the window.

I picked up nearly all the freeview channels for the kids, they were very happy, well worth taking instead of the tv and dvd player as you can still watch dvd's in the laptop
