Hi, I am new to this forum and to caravaning and am seeking some help please.
We have decided to have a go at caravaning as it all sounds so much fun. We don't want to spend a lot and can't afford a lot either. A friend is selling her Avondale Wren which is 29yrs old but it looks to be in good nick. She is giving everything with it including a small awning and is only asking £200 for it all.
Do you think I should buy? We only want to get this year and maybe next year out of it then if we are still as interested we will get a better van.
Go for it, £200 is not a lot of money, if you use it for one season and have to sell it, it`s still a cheap holiday, i`m sure a builder would pay £200 for it as a site hut, we have a avondale quantock which is 20yrs old and still in use, does have some problems but still going strong, best of luck.
Hi Cariad welcome to the forum and so glad you popped in. I am even more pleased that you have such a fabulous opportunity to buy your first van. Great news, you never know we may meet up on a site somewhere and be doing our sugarcrafting while on our hols [ cakemaker ]
We got a 19yo Avondale Firefly this year as we had had enough of the trailer tent. Still in good condition for its age. Cost a lot more than the Wren though, but was still cheap enough to enable us to use to find out whether it is for us and the terrors though.
Hi Sue,
The Avondale Birds were the elite of Avondale. The Wren was the smallest. They are all wonderful little vans and don't even really look their age. Our Sandmartin is now 13 years old and the 2nd Sandmartin we have had. The first one was 1986 and you still see them around. At that price you can't possibly go wrong and you can always customise it to suit you. I would say go for it.
After reading your comments we really can't wait to get this caravan and as for keeping it for just 2 seasons we will be keeping it for as long as it will last. I love the shape of it and it ooozes character. Oh roll on Friday. I haven't been this excited in years
I would go for it at that price we have an Avondale Kestrel (1992) and it is a great van.....even if you only use it for one season to see if you like caravaning it would be worth it.
