Yes we have a fixed bed and wouldn't go back now, it's lovely to just be able to climb in, also it's great in the mornings O.H. can walk the dog have his breakfast at the crack of dawn while I'm still away with the fairies ah bliss.
Under the bed we put the dogs bed and sleeping bag, brolly, chairs, small table and while we are there it doubles up as a cellar
To rocy tock we don't take everything out from under the bed whilst travelling, we don't consider there is a lot of weight there we also travel with clothes in the wardrobe, always have with not a snake in sight
We also travel with clothes in the wardobe, it's not as if we have suits of armour so surely they don't weigh very much? All that is under the beds is sleeping bags and a small table we just bought (£3.99 in Dunelm), as there is nowhere at one end of the lounge to put a cup or glass down.

I couldn't help laughing Anne, though you never know what some folks might take with them. lol
Just what is your problem, although I see you're a motorhome owner, so maybe you just don't know what your talking about!
I've had a fixed centre bed in a large twin-axle for nearly 6 years now, and although the under-bed space isn't exactly packed solid, there's a fair bit of stuff under there.
Also, in 30 years of caravanning I've ALWAYS towed with clothes already in wardrobes, drawers and cupboards. In fact, other than things like the TV, on the floor, and the awning, on the floor too, everything is always put in it's place before we leave, and is only moved when we return home and take them back into the house!!
SHOCK......................HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi there - completely new to caravanning - just couldnt deal with spending £1200 a week in a hotel in St Ives, Cornwall, when £200 a week gets you a decent pitch. We went to the caravan show and ordered there and then an Abbey Vogue 470, with the fixed bed. Advice from most salesmen was a no-no since we have a 5 year old and a 3 year old, however it made sense to just be able to put the kids on the bed when we got in at night as they were often fast asleep. This also true of pulling in to motorway service stations for an overnight kip. We love the Vogue 470. Once the kids are tucked up, we slide the partition shut, and enjoy the rest of the night together without disturbing.
We just part Ex our van that we only had for 12 weeks for one with a fixed bed. I am more than happy to compromise on the bathroom size if it means I dont have to fight with cushions night and morning to make up and un make a bed.Roll on the 12th June when we pick up the new van.

Hate making up beds every night and the bench seats are so uncomfortable expecially if they have a knee role.
That was one reason why I was always against having a caravan, but as there is only the two of us we decided to leave the bed permanently made up in our recently-aquired 2-berth van. We had our first long weekend away in it on the last bank holiday and it was great to be able to just get into bed without having to make it up first. So if we ever decide we are going to have a new van then yes, it will definitely be a fixed bed for us.

This is our first van and the reason behind a fixed bed was the same as yours. I think it all boils down to each individuals taste and circumstances. I know if we still had 4 young children we would not have done it but now they have toddled off to thier own lives and we can enjoy our time again then fixed bed is a must! have fun everyone and enjoy the summer!
We haven't got a fixed bed because we want the daytime living space you don't get with a fixed bed. Also, I'm well over 6ft tall and most fixed beds aren't big enough. To be honest, making up the bed from the front dinette isn't a huge task. It only takes two or three minutes to pull the bedding out of the nearside-front locker, pull out the slats, rearrange a few cushions, throw down the duvet cover with the mattress topper in it, throw down the pillows, then throw down the duvet.
That said, there's one thing I miss with our layout that would be resolved with a fixed bed - I can't figure out anywhere to stow the awning when we're not using it. When we're travelling it's on the floor over the axle, but for short stays where we don't want to put the awning up the best I've come up with is to fold down one of the middle row of seats in the Pajero and leave the awning in the car.
I think it is up to individual circumstances -if there is just 2 of you then a fixed bed is great, but I think when you have a family you need the extra space
