 Hello all

Just got our (new to us) van- a  TEC Travel king and (apologies for sounding a bit silly  here) but does anyone know if the water heats on elec as well as gas? The remote on the wall  has a flame indicator so I am presuming gas but is there one another way?

Any help appreciated.

can you say what make and model the water heater is? it will probably be a 'Truma' something or if year 2000 or before a 'Carver' perhaps?.

If you can't find that, what does it look like?

Most caravan water heaters work on electricity as well as gas, so if it was British made, it would definitely have a switch somewhere for electric.  However, TEC are made elsewhere, and presumably the electrics are modified for the British market, so it's a bit more specialist.

Have you tried asking the dealer you bought it from - or the previous owner?  When we sold our van privately we had about half a dozen calls from the new owner, asking us various questions, and were always pleased to help.

Similarly, when we bought a new van, even after the demonstrations, there were questions we realised we should have asked, and the dealer was very helpful.

Is there a switch for the  hotwater near where you turn on your pump? if so then this would be the electric switch on, if that helps.

 Thanks for all help.

I feel really silly asking question without giving all information. But I am going back to caravan this weekend and will look at boiler (it is a trauma )and I will have a good look for extra switches etc and maybe  give you more info to go on

Thanks again

p.s I didn't realise when we bought a caravan we would spend sooooooo much time thinking of al the things we might need to buy as extras. microwave, elec hob, steamer, bed annex for awning, is it always so addictive????????????
