i have a 2007 bailey caravan ,which i had serviced this year by a bailey dealer.my question is, do i have to keep going back to the dealer to have a service because of the warranty on a new van? or can i now get a mobile service man to go to the site i have it season pitched.
We have been told as long as they stamp the service book you can have it serviced by anyone, although you need to check that out with you mobile people to check they do warranty servicing,
We had our 2007 swift serviced this year by our local mobile service people and it cost us £111 where as our swift dealer wanted us to pay £235 for the same thing and we would have had to have taken it there one week and picked it up the next!
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
As long as the mobile service is approved by the manufactured then there is no problem.

Sorry to tell you this folks but you either have to get a written agreement from the dealer/manufacturer who you got your caravan from or have it serviced by an NCC approved caravan engineer, otherwise they can and will cancel your warranty....I am a member of the MCEA (mobile caravan engineers association) and we cannot touch caravans of 3 years or younger.......sterlin.co.uk
My mate has a caravan on site at Brean, it's a Bailey & he reckons the dealer close by there can come to his site & service his van satisfying the terms of his warranty.
I'd be inclined to ask Bailey direct to make sure your warranty is upheld. It has to be worthwhile to get the van serviced within the requirements of the warranty terms but it must be difficult if a caravan is on a permanent pitch. I'd have to ask Bailey to make sure.
We have a fantastic mobile service man but currently have ours dealer serviced to keep the warranty up together.
It's worth giving the service manager at the dealer a ring as they may have an agreement with a local mobile engineer. We got our van from the Bailey dealer just north of Bristol, don't know if it's the same as the one you use. We had a motor mover fitted that the dealer wasn't able to fit in for us, but the service manager recommended a local mobile fitter, when he came out to fit the mover he told me that the dealer also use him for mobile servicing. He said that he does service Baileys within the terms of the warrenty, just need to ring the service manager at the dealers and tell them we want to use him when we need the service and that the dealers will stamp the book for us. Our service won't be due until next year as we've only just got this van but it'll be much less hassle than taking the van back to the dealers.
They have a list of workshops they approve to service Bailey caravans and are approved to carry out warranty work too. (I think it includes mobile fitters too)
I have looked on their website but cannot find that info.
Today I have e-mailed customer services to ask if any NCC approved workshop can do the servicing and if I had it done at one of these, how would it effect the warranty.
We have had this debate before. Bailey told me that you CAN use a mobile NCC engineer. In any case, if they refuse to rectify a fault because THEY hadn't serviced it, they will have to show the fault was caused by lack of servicing. Their warranties do not relieve them of their obligations under the Sale of Goods Act.They wont fob me off if I have a problem and I will use the mobile guy. If I get any s**t from them I'll put them in court. The days when people F*****d me over are behind me.
I have now received a reply from Kelly at Bailey:-
Thank you for your email regarding your Bailey Pageant Burgundy
Bailey has a network of approved retailers and service centres across the UK . We are happy for you to have servicing work carried out at any of these centres or any NCC approved workshop, however, any warranty work required will need to be carried out by a Bailey Agent.
Bailey Approved retailers, however, are under no obligation by Bailey to carry out work of another centre if they do not wish to as they are Independent companies and Bailey has no control over their business ethics.

Interesting remarks wonder if it has ever been tested
For the Bailey list of approved service and warranty repairers go to the Bailey website
From the top row click on "Retailer Network"
It then explains the difference between different dealers and service agents and shows the iconfor them. Read it very carefully. It states that Dealers are not obliged to service or make warranty repairs on caravans purchased from another dealer etc. So make sure you know the icon that suits you from those available and check that who you choose will carry out the service and do any warranty work.
You can then put in your post code and see who is near you.
Thanks prospector I got that too, I dont really wish to test the theory,I am reacting to their insistence that THEY alone must do your servicing which I found out to be untrue. The local Bailey dealer to where I keep my 'van is no longer an NCC approved workshop but is Bailey approved. John.

To cut a long story short any member of the NCC (National caravan council)mobile or work placed based can service a 3 year or younger caravan................but how many of you would prefer a 1 on 1 based engineer who is willing to know the person and not the caravan as a whole.................Personally i Nearly joined the NCC as i thought it would benefit me as a buisness, but it was the extortionate fees we need to join and the thanks for helping us that p*ssed me off, also i would have to charge a fixed NCC fee..................People like you lot could help out change what is known as the NCC.... If you require a mobile caravan engineer please contact the MCEA.co.uk...............We are real people who enjoy caravavinng, not people who like to screw you
