I'm considering advertising our Bailey Pageant Provence series 5 when we return from holiday at the end of this month. We only caravan in the summer months & want to replace it with a new one next spring. I don't want to leave it sitting on the drive for the winter, it seems a waste to do that. The van was two years old in july.

It's a bit different because, we've spent some money having the axle upgraded to take an Al-Ko lock. This meant we had to have Alloy wheels fitted as well. It's also got a mover on it, the van's only been used 5 times & is literally as new.

Has anyone advertised a second hand van recently? I understand dealers can't get enough of them. Where's the best place to advertise it? Will it be better to remove the extras & sell the basic van or leave them on & increase the price a bit? The Al-ko & mover improvements cost me £1700 supplied & fitted by the dealer.

I will advertise it on this forum but will want it advertised elsewhere too. Any suggestions & advice would be appreciated.

Hello Jim,

We're back off of our holiday & the caravan is for sale & available. If you are interested in a 25 month old Pageant provence series 5 in as new condition & if you post an email address, I'll contact you.

I know everyone selling something says the same but, this outfit is as new & while there's always a few tyre kickers, the first serious viewer will buy it, I'm quite confident in that. We've only used it 5 times.

From what I can see of things, with the credit crunch and all that, dealers are doing a lot of special deals on new vans...which inevitably will have a knock on effect on the price of used vans.  Swings and roundabouts really.

As for the extras on your van, this will of course help to sell it (to anyone who realises what these things are worth) but I doubt you will recoup what you have paid out.  Probably best not to include them in the deal or perhaps suggest that it's up for negotiation with any potential buyer.

Have you advertised it on this site?  A family member of mine advertised a campervan on here recently (and on Preloved, also for free) and had so much interest, he could have sold it a dozen times over.  The classified ads on Ebay are good too (only £10 fixed fee).
