I am goig to view a 1996 Fleetwood Colchester 1500EB 2 berth caravan on wednesday, i just woulnderd if any one can give me any tips wot to look for, and wot sort of price i should pay.
The owner as said come and have a look and make him an offer, it as got a full awning, water buts, new battery, alco stabalizer, is it a seperate shower on this model, or in with the toilet. He said the last time he used it the electric flush on the cassett toilet did not work, is this a big problem to solve.
Are they a decent van , and wot should i offer him if every thing seems ok, I have got no idea at all, I have got a elddiss vogue 212 30se at the moment but i would like one a little bit bigger with end bathroom.
okay Mr P49 (glad it isnt mr P45 LOL) I paid £3500 for my 97 garland a year ago, that was for an immaculate van from a dealer with aquaroll, wastemaster etc, the colchester is a slightly bigger van with the full rear washroom, spec wise there isnt much in it the colchester has leccy ignition on the oven
if the thing is immaculate IE no damp, please take a meter and check everywhere, I reckon on being a private sale and your warranty being 3 feet or the gate whatever comes 1st. I reckon on 3k tops, not perrfect like worm moquette or anything not 100% working pitch at 2500, in fact if you are a cheeky chappie (like me) offer him £2500, give him the spiel like it is the end of the season etc, be worth less in the spring as the van will be a year older etc etc
the fleetwoods of that period were generally good vans, the only area for concern is the fromt windows there was a modification to the seals circa 95 so yours should be sound. You will find that the build quality is far better than most vans
any othe fleetwood owners want to give thsi chap some opinion
We have a 1993 Fleetwood Colchester bought 2 years ago and it has been a pleasure to own it, Condition was super both inside and out .(slight dent caused by the gate in France jumping out at me)
It tows well and for the 3 of us suits us down to the ground.. Sound the seller out and see what reasonable offer he/she will acept. Ours came fully fitted with everthing you need inc a colour tv for 2k. Hope this helps.
good to hear you are happy with yours Shane, perhaps we should start a fleetwood appreciation thread on here as there seems to be more fleetwood owners on here than in the owners club. We can then talk about how brilliant our vans are compared to lesser makes
As always you get good knowledgeable advice on here. As you are asking for help on this van I assume you are new to caravans and you may find that if you go to a dealer, where you get some sort of warranty or are protected by fit for purpose, at this time of credit crunch you could well get a bargain. No trade in gives you leverage for striking a deal, reduction of price plus some necessary freebies like aquaroll, step, hitchlock etc. I have not looked lately but I imagine that there are a lot of vans on forecourts at the moment. NEC show soon so dealers need to get rid of stock to fit in the new stuff.
Best of luck in getting a great van at a great price.
