HI all

 

My old van has a lot off green mould, mildew on the roof, Can anyone suggest a way of getting rid off this and preventing it building up in the first place, I do not have a power washer. The van is stored close to a wall which keeps the roof in shadow ,most off the time which I know probably causes it but any advice would be useful

Our camper was in a dreadful state with mildew. After spending a forture on various approved lotions and potions which IMO didn't really make any difference, I found the best thing for cleaning it was to use Cif and a lot of elbow grease. After cleaning it I gave it a few coats of Auto Glym resin polish applied with yet again a lot of elbow grease and it now looks as good as new.

I would suggest testing the Cif on a small area just to be on the safe side.

I would'nt recommend using a power washer on a caravan,caravan paint layers are quite thin compared to car paint.You also run the risk of breaking seals for example around roof lights with the force of water.I used to use a step ladder and long brush and for stubborn marks I used auto glym motorhome cleaner which I think is a great product it also brings awning rails etc up like new .I agree with tiggarsmum about using a good polish which should lessen the the dreaded green algea..
