hello everyone just bought a new car a rover 75 2.0 cdt tourer 2003 62k my other car gave me a nose weight of 75kg my new one gives me 100kg a big differance will have to rearange all my caravan now as i new where and what to put where to get my nose weight right will have fun doing this in and out of the van to keep checking the guage
If your caravan tows ok as it is then leave it. just because your car has a max 100kg towbar load dont mean you have to run your caravan at that nose weight.
------------- Sell my camper? I'd rather eat school semolina!
it towed very well it a twin axle but an unsure with new car 25kg differance is a lot so think i should put a bit more weight up front would like the feelings of others about this
I would suggest leaving the nose weight much as before even though your new car has a higher rating.
I think I am right that the Rover is a front wheel drive. The more weight you put on the rear end the lighter the front end. This may not be to advantage.
I wonder what others think.
------------- I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left - Seasick Steve 2008
mine is 92 kgs,i go for 85 to 90 kgs.feels good on tow so that is a good indication of a balanced unit.i get a bit lazy with the check on nose weight.if nothing has changed after the first weigh i do not check again.if you add say another gas bottle then a re-weigh is on the cards.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I have the opposite problem of trying to get a good weight, usually run at about 65kg that si with 2 bottles, spare wheel and battery up front. thought the rule was to aim for 7% of the van's weight
As said just because you can have a higher nose weight, doesnt mean you must. Your new car should pull your Garland and hardly notice its there, so I dont think leaving things as they are would be a problem.
Agree with Alan 126, advice is to aim at the lower of the max car noseweight or 7% or caravan weight, so if your van weight is below 1500 kg you should not load car to 100kg, 1500 or above then 100 kg would apply.
I think that 7% of the vans weight is the target noseweight.
It is ok to tow with a noseweight below this in a well balanced van as is the case with my car where my 75kg noseweight is below the 7% weight of the van but the car is still well within the 85% guide, from C&CC FAQ:
"The Towing Code says a caravan's noseweight should be seven percent of the laden weight of the caravan, but this may be restricted by the car or caravan limits."
In the case of the OP if the 75kg limit of their previous car was below 7% of their vans weight the advice would be to increase the noseweight to 7% as long as within the new cars 100kg limit.
