On most campsites in France you can hire a cylinder and we did that this year(2008)
We were using a lot of Camping Gaz with the faulty fridge so the site owner loaned us FOC a 15Kg cylinder and we just paid for the gas and returned the cylinder when we left
That would be more probable than piped gas to the pitches and indeed most mobile homes on site use the cylinders with change over valves
We normally go to France with one full Camping Gaz cylinder and one empty to save weight etc
That sounds like a good idea. For us, the only problem is that we use the BP Gaslite cylinders (2 x 10kg). Hope that they eventually get these into France, then we could do the same.
Ploughed my way through all the posts and nobody has mentioned that you would not be able to have a motor mover on the caravan as proposed. Maybe a limitation for some.
On a different tack, how about an Alko chassis with a motor mover that was built into the axle and not the crude wheel on tyre we have now.
I doubt the Xplore Electric would bother with 12v. There would be no need for that if you always had EHU
See the world's first all-electric touring caravan - the Xplore Electric - unveiled at the show. With no heavy gas bottles to tow or handle, the Xplore Electric manufactured by The Explorer Group, is the feather-weight of the caravan world. You simply plug your tourer into the site's electric hook-up and you can relax immediately.
From this blurb, it would seem to suggest there is no 12v.
Featherweight? Bet it's not all that light. And of course, with no gas bottles or battery to give low down weight, and the ridiculously high place they seem to put the microwaves in modern vans, I reckon the centre of gravity will be quite high and could give some stability problems when towing.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
All electric caravan sounds OK with the hook ups we have in the UK. I believe it`s European isn`t it? That could be dicy. Their limits are lower than ours methinks. The only thing I use gas for is the hob, which is good. But the Gas fire and oven are OUT!! Good riddance say I. But I`m limited to decent hook up sites; suits us fine.
------------- Peripheral people don`t have as much excitement but they sure live longer
I reckon it was a good topic, and am considering (partially) going down the same path. Since it`s all new to me, all options are open and convenience plays a big part.
