The 85% rule is not a rule as such, it is more a recommendation and applies to the kerb weight of the vehicle, not the maximum towing weight.
From other websites it seems that the kerb weight of the Matrix is 1358kg. 85% of this is 1154kg, so if you are inexperienced at towing then the caravan should ideally be less than 1154kg. Legally, however, you could tow a van upto 1300kg (the maximum towing weight for the vehicle).
Noseweight of 52kg seems light to me and may be a problem. You can usually adjust the caravan noseweight a bit by the way it is packed.
