Silly question...but is it advisable to drink the tap water on UK sites or do people normally take a big bottle of mineral/spring water (for water that you are not going to boil, i.e. squash for the kids).
Thanks!
We drink it, but not through caravan system we fetch drinking water in bottles / jug. Though one of ours often doesn't like taste of different water so sometimes buy water for drinking (not for in kettle) or take water filter.
We drink straight from the tap and have never had a problem!

Same with us. I was thinking of running some mild milton solution through the system though to give it a clean and then give it a thorough rinse through afterwards. Does anyone recommend we don't do this for any reason? Thanks!
I use the van water, I sterilise everything 2-3 times a season (fillers, aqua-roll, pump, the lot) non of us have every had a problem, including my wife who has a very sensative stomach!
I used to drink it no problem but it always went straight into the kettle so I never saw it.
I'm currently on a diet and I have to drink 2-3 litres of water a day and when I saw it ina clear glass couldn't believe how many "bits" are floating around in it! I dont know whether they come from the aqua roll or the van pipes but from now on I'm filling some 2 litre bottles at home and taking them to drink.
we usally fill seperate container for making squash/drinking & use the van water for cooking washing etc. , was reading recenty about tablets or liquid you can add to the water that kills off the nasty bugs & makes it safe to drink (dont know bout getting rid of floaty bits thou!) but cant remember what its called

There as been something on here about milton fluid. That it corrodes the stainless steel in the hot water heaters. I don't no how true this is.
I have noticed you mentioning cleaning out your water systems in the van with milton or other sterilising solutions, how do you do this as we are new to this caravanning.
Going to clean our water system next week - this is how I do it:
1. Fill both aquarolls with cold water and add Milton as directed on the bottle (supermarkets' own brand sterilizing fluid works just as well). Leave solution to stand for an hour.
2. Draw the solution through the 'van's water system, making sure it's flowed through all the taps. Leave it there for an hour.
3. Empty aquarolls and drain caravan system. Rinse aquarolls well with fresh water, then draw LOTS of water through the van's system to give it a good rinse.
4. Lastly, change the filter cartridge, if you have one. (I actually remove the filter cartridge (the type that fits next to the pump inlet) and replace it with a blank cap that I keep just for this job).
5. Job done - water system all clean!
Having done all this, we usually have water in a 5L plastic bottle for making drinks, but purely because hubby reckons tea 'tastes funny' when it's made with water from the caravan's system, not because of concerns about the safety of the water. And there are a couple of sites we've been to where we've bought water as the water on the site had a 'taste'!!

We drink the water from the taps with no problem. When we started caravanning we used to drink the water as it came through the caravan taps from the Aquaroll but found that on occasion it had a real foul taste to it, the taste goes away if you sterilise the barrel and all the internal pipes but comes back before the next trip and I got fed up of pumping large quantities of water through it. So now we use a 5 litre water bottle ( one of tescos finest spring water bottle that we replace with a new one every time the handle breaks ) for drinking water and water for the kettle, and use the aquaroll for everything else. I clean out the barrel and pipes a couple of times a year though.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
