at £300 - £400 a year on a storage site a cheaper option is to increase the house contents insurance by £150.plus the simple fact not everyone can afford the storage site fees, and from what i have heard the fees are all due to go up with a bump.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
What if your van isnt there as its in for a service or you sell it?? I would rather store it at home but its personal choice. Money is very tight as it is and the storage money would infringe on ,time -packing the van and collecting it, money- for holidays and peace -when I want to go and sit in it with a cuppa or a wine, away from a house full of teenagers!! Its also a great spare bedroom if anyone comes to visit! If they look that bad why buy one in the first place?

It never ceases to amaze me at just how confrontational some people can get when someone has a different opinion than theirs. Like I said, everyone has their own reasons, but as everyone else that had replied to the original post was almost all in agreeing on keeping them on their front drive, in this case, their was only one-side to the story so I was merely pointing out a couple of possibilities that may have been overlooked.
Some of the questions that people poise on here they already know the answer to, so giving any answer at all is sometimes pretty pointless as they have already made up their mind.
It's like the 'Which is the best Motor-Mover' question that people ask, that one always turns into a heated debate as everyone is always in disagreement. But the reality to that question is that everyone's needs and requirements are different so what is good for one may not be suitable to another.
Good luck with your front garden storage as I believe that your mind was already made up.

HI i have my van in storage but after replanning the front garden can now get the van in the yard. This i do if doing a quick turn round.
After checking my insurance policy i can keep it at home for very limited times due to the insurance company giving a better discount for being on gold award storage.
I should check your policy before moving permanently.

Thanks for that. We were on a not very secure storage site which had a gate with a padlock on it. It was not an award site of any description. We risked damaging the van each time we took it out as there was a large oak tree in the driveway wich was very awkward to negotiate and beyond that a low wall on a bend. Not good. The field couild be accessed from the neighbouring fields. There was no substantial fencing.
It was all we could get for storage round here so we feel it is safer on our drive behind a high fence and hedge. Who knows!!!!!!!!
'It never ceases to amaze me at just how confrontational'
It is not that people are being confrontational but every time this debate comes up people who keep their vans on their drive are sl*gged off by people who don't. They are accused of making their neighbourhoods untidy and reminded of security risks which are obvious.
I don't see any criticism the other way. Has anyone passed 'judgement' on people who keep their vans in storage? I see no problem with people keeping their vans in storage if that is what they want, but why make 'judgements' and lecture the rest of us?
No one lectured anyone and my only criticism was that my two neighbours gardens look like a travellers site. So if you take that as criticism, then maybe that's what your garden looks like.
If you take off your Horns for one second you may be able to see that 2Kias asked for 'Opinions', and along with everyone else, I gave mine. So as your opinion is different to mine it appears that either mine was close to the bone or your just not prepared to hear other peoples opinions as only yours counts.
But as you obviously have skin as thick as a Rhino, that hardly surprises me.

He asked for opinions and what you gave were 'judgements' which I suppose means that your opinions count more than anyone elses. The opinions he asked for were on whether the vans are safer in storage not on the aesthetics.
It isn't that you opinion is close to the bone but when you start talking about 'the best advice and deaf ears' it is patronising and suggests that we haven't weighed up the risks. Nobody is arguing about whether good storage is better for security than keeping it on the drive, but whether it is convenient for the individual.
I am prepared to listen to all opinions but I don't necessarily have to go along with them. I won't even comment on your last rude remark.
If it wasn't for an extension thats being built I would still keep my van at home, afraid I dont give a monkeys if anyone doesnt like the look of caravans, as long as its clean and well maintained keep it at home if you have the room, some of the neighbours around here keep heaps of rusty unfinished projects of cars on their drives which to me looks a lot worse than a caravan so I would always say if you prefer to keep the van at home then do so

One of my neighbours has two vans stored on his tiny garden and his neighbour has another one and it looks like a travellers site.
In my humble opinion, if it can go in the back garden and not be in view from the road then all well and good. But front gardens are unsightly and are just a feeble excuse for not wanting to pay for storage. You can convince yourself with allsorts of feeble reasons, but when some desperate heroine addict breaks into your house I really don't believe that your neighbours, teenagers or dog will either stop them or put them off. Chances are that the person will be familiar with the dog anyway.
Caravans aren't unsightly far from it i could walk around a caravan dealers all day loving to see some of them outside my house. Why is wanting them outside your house a feeble excuse for paying for storage? I paid a lot of money for storage per yr and over 3 times that amount to have builders put a hardstanding next to my house so i could have it outside so hardly a cop out and i know for sure what i prefer having done both.
The local heroin addict as you put it is very welcome to break into my house and if you don't think anything will stop them you're quite welcome to come and try... Good luck
i put ours in the back garden and dont care if its unsightly to the neighbours !!!!!
its better than looking at their 30 foot long breezeblock garage on one side and the tatty sheds/freezers/pallets on the other side.
its in my garden where i can keep an eye on it,work on it and im sure its safer than our local (ish) storage site where stuff goes walkies on a daily basis.
We had our vans in storage for over 10 years and finally took the plunge two years ago to pave the back garden ( very small garden) and store the van there. It was the best decision ever. We spoke to the neibours and they were happy as they used to be vanners themselves. I can now prepare for holidays prpoerly and when not away, just go and sit in it. Bliss!!. And the money saved pays for extra holidays.
