We've just bought a 1987 Sprite. Some damage but treated and dried out when tested with a damp meter. So its perfectly possibly to buy vans without damp even 20 years old. Obviously this is a tiny starter van but I think Karim's view is overly negative lol. Buy with your eyes open of course, so u don't make a purchase that's worse than u expected but it IS possible to buy van's that aren't damp.

It's gone again. This is very strange? It's been on under 2 different names now, one is no longer a registered user. He keeps relisting it then it goes off.........
Looks as if someone else may have already reported him to Ebay. Perhaps you were not the only ones who went to view...armed with a damp meter.
He may try to relist it again (or advertise it elsewhere) so it's worth keeping a look out. Horrible to think someone may be parting with their cash, only to be very disappointed.
Having said that, I would have been dubious from the start if he was a newly registered Ebay user with no feedback.

What I said, a large 'van is more likely to be damp than a small one. If you want to spend less money it makes sense to be negative. Fact is if you see a 'van you like you want it to be perfect, you dont want it to have any faults, thats how you end up buying junk.
Be suspicious, be wary, show total lack of interest, then tell'em you might be interested but not at that price.
Just an update - we bought a caravan at last!!! It's a '92 Avondale Grampian with the layout we wanted. Had to pay a bit more but it's a great van. Glad we held out for this one now. Did a lot of going over it like we said we would but was very happy with it. Can't wait to go away now The right van came along in the end.........
Bye the way. the other one we had the trouble with is back on ebay, up to 1020 now and he has had the cheek to highlight that it has no damp or rot. I am tempted to email the winning bidder to just tell them to double check it all.
we had a similar problem with a car on ebay,it was supposed to be 'immaculate, mint inside and out,new tyres all round, sunroof'so off we went a 9 hour round trip, paint was peeling off roof, the sunroof wasnt there, old tyres, engine sounded dodgy.we didnt buy,but all the seller kept saying was what do you expect for ££££.i said i expect it how it was advertised.he shrugged his shoulders. He advertised car again, when it sold i emailed the new buyer and told them the condition as it was.dont know if they bought it or not,but he never got his feedback for it

See you all on site
Hi, Pleased to see you managed to buy a nice, dry caravan in the end...I would forget all about the other one on eBay...just put it down to a bad experience which has made you very wary when buying in the future.Happy Caravanning.
We went to look at a twin axle fixed bed 'van about 12 months ago. Before we went we tried to find a layout of it on the internet, but none of the websites showed this particular make and model with a fixed bed.We decided to have a look anyway. The guy had put his own fixed bed in it-it was hilarious-he'd made such a bad job of it you just had to laugh!!The base was made out of old pallets with a double mattress on top.And as the bedside cabinet was fixed, he'd just cut straight down the middle of it so there was just half a cabinet sitting there!!No, we didnt buy it and it's still for sale!!

It's not just Ebay. Go to 'Search' at the top of this page, put in 'Glossop' and topic - 'Caravans'. The last thread listed is mine!
Glossop Caravans is supposed to be the biggest dealer in the UK and we bought from them because we were first-timers and knew nothing about second-hand caravans so we thought it would be better to go to a dealer who would give us a warranty. We were so ripped off, we cannot believe that a so-called 'reputable' company can operate like this within the law.
They sold us a caravan running with damp as 'dry' and, after we'd sussed them out and whilst we were waiting for them to fetch it back, they re-advertised it. It now seems they have sold it to someone else!
I think we only got a refund so easily because my OH was working for a barrister who dealt in Consumer Law and I threatened them with court.
We bought another van off Ebay, two years younger, a lot cheaper and with everything we needed (and dry)! so not everybody on Ebay is a crook but I'm sure there are more rogues in second hand caravans than in horse dealing!
Shop around, trust your instincts, don't be taken in by 'Honest Joe' salesmen and TAKE A DAMP METER. The good vans are out there, you've just got to find them.
