We had a problem about 4 years ago they said we could tow a caravan with a particular car and on that basis we put a deposit down - but taking further advice and looking at the print out they gave us we realised the caravan was too heavy. I think we paid a deposit and got it back - it was probably on credit card - but we wouldn't wait long and it might be worth checking with Trading Standards. We lost faith with L at Nottingham after this experience and the way were NOT looked after by the service department - though previously we had been impressed by them. We just think it got too big and some of the staff in the service department could improve how they deal with customers.
Have you got written proof that they will refund the deposit? Was there a time limit too? If you have then somewill be along soon to help point you in the right direction.
Good Luck and i just have to ask what made you change your mind?
We have it in writing we told them we might have a problem fitting it into our car port and after measuring it we found it did not fit so we had a get out clause, it was above board and was a genuine mistake.
They phoned us this morning and have asked for some pictures to returned that came with the van so they maybe holding back the money until they get the pictures back.
and we don't have a time limit that we can see.

Just thought that info might be helpful to someone who could give you advice. Seems as if they are trying to drag out giving you back your deposit? Life is all a lesson and we all make mistakes, at least you can get your money back. Are you going to return the pic's in person and get your deposit back at the same time?
So what will you do now? Will you try and get a 'van that will fit? Our 'van is only 7ft wide and newer 'van's are now wider than that.
Hope that you get your deposit back without too much more fuss.
We have just posted the pictures and will post back if we get a result by the end of next week.
We live up in Scotland and it is a 7hour drive down so fingers X we will get our money back, failing that my wife works for solicitors so a letter will wing it's way there if they don't!

Well good luck, cos we just lost ours! (different dealer)We put it down at the NEC, he told us he wouldn't put it through until we took our caravan as part ex up to his shop, but what a liar, cashed it the same day! Amazing how nice they are to you when they want your money, an how nasty they turn once they have it!!
Sorry, maybe I'm missing something here but I have to ask. Couldn't you have measured your carport first and then got the dimensions of the van to see if it would fit before putting a deposit down? And why buy one from so far away from home?

I have to ask. Why oh! why do peple buy at trade shows from dealers who are miles away. It may look like a good deal but I would far rather sit in a dealers office and actually see what I am buying instead of ordering a van with a delivery date that may or may not be correct.
Same as buying a car. I want to see the one I am buying!!!!!
I purchased our Elddis from Kenmore Caravans in Mirfield.
As I had serious doubts about if it would or would not fit down the narrow part of my drive, they wrote on the deposit receipt "subject to van fitting down drive" .
A couple of days later, by arrangement, 4 guys towed the van to my house and manhandled it into position. (It fits, JUST, but no way without a motor mover).
Nice to deal with people that do what they say without you having to put their arms up their backs.
To explain, we were on our way back from the south of England visiting our folk we live in Scotland and if any of you have been up here there are just a few dealers.
We were told that Lowdham's stock Eriba this is what we were looking for, we found they had just a few and were not what we were looking for so we asked the sales reps for any other van that was small and lightweight as total novices to caravans we liked the look of a Adria Action 341PH+ this van ticked most of the boxes but we were not certain of the hight of our car port, we were asked to make a deposit, to hold the van (standard practice) we had it in writing and all was above board.
One last thing Lowdam's have returned our deposit in full and we thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
We now know what we plan to by and that is an Eriba 225Gt or 310/320Gt this will fit our Car port.
Thanks for all your input.

We bought a used van from Lowdhams and I can't praise them enough the service we got was second to none I was so impressed I wrote a letter to tell them so.
When we bought our new caravan we bought it from a dealer nearer to home and they gave a better deal but...... oh how we wished we had got it from Lowdhams even at the higher cost.
Lowdham Leisure- never! When their workshop burnt down we all had to claim off our own insurance! Mine was a total right off and their attitude was appalling! My unit had only gone in for a minor repair! If they were the only dealer I would sleep under the stars! Im pleased that someone got sorted thanks to this forum!
