Hi,Been using my Bessacar as seasonel last four year`s,looking to change to Hobby, due to dubious background of these vans can any one reccomend a good ,honest dealer,i am after 640 type model,.If any one could help i would be most gratefull, cheer`s,Brian.
PLEASE think hard before you get one. They are a massive security risk and highly desired by thieves. I lock up the bad guys for a living and this is a big risk. Great vans, but carry a big price.
Hi Sean,Thanks for advice, know what youy mean, have allready enquired about two of ebay, one guy wanted to meet me on a garage forecourt!!! dont think so?second after enquiring gaurenteed van was legal with log book, gave me post code and house No,arrived to find myself on a romany site, few things didn`t add up,quick exit.Dealers only from now on.Neil,Lena, towing wont be problem as i will be using it as static on site where their are security camera`s and barriers, have been on a good few year`s and is very secure.I fully agree with all of you that using it as tourer has its problems security wise, thank`s again for your usefull info,Brian.
How about naming and shaming them? Which 2 hobbies were they and what area did they claim to be from?
We nearly got caught out on ebay but i put 2 & 2 together....Someone was selling and Avondale and had no feedback, said they were from London, we emailed them and then found a Tabbert. This was so say from London too but under a different name, again with no feedback! we emailed him too. I logged on this morning to find messages from both people in the same broken english, one said oh i'm on holiday i'll get it delivered to you if you want it. I looked at the times both were sent and they were only 2 minutes apart in the early hours of this morning.......bit of a coincidence eh!!
You've got to be so careful with ebay, so many blooming scammers! I'll see if i can find the items so i can put the numbers up here for everyone to avoid them!
We purchased our hobby from D&S Trading in Northhumberside, we have a seasonal pitch in the lakes, over the last 6months 4 hobbys have been purchased on our site they were bought from the Hobby Dealer in Annan and all have been happy with the customer service i understand these two dealers are related hope this helps.

The Tabbert number is 180348164539. it could be genuine but best to be safe than sorry. I can't find the avondale on there.

Anyway just thought you might like to know.
Thanks for some very interesting replies,am of to van for few dys will reply more detail when we get back,Cheers,Brian.PS,Fronzoni, were at Ambleside, lakes, where are you?.
Any large modern twin axle caravan is going to be a target for thieves, who sell them on for residential use within their 'community'
As smaller caravans are not so suitable for residential use they tend not to get stolen. Its not the make of caravan its the size. Most Hobbys in this country are large ones but Hobby are like any other manufacturer, their range goes from small to large.
