This has been a great help. We have been talking about getting a new TV. My OH was looking at the 19" HD Ready with built in digital for £165.00. (Technica) from Tesco, and now wth all these reviews I think he's made his mind up.
Amazing that this thread should be posted OH only said this teatime that if we didn't get a good picture on the TV whilst away this weekend He was going to get a new one ei.ther from Tesco or Argos. 15" both under £100.
------------- Don't know where I'm going but will be happy when I get there.
We recently bought a new tv for the van. Having seen the low price of Tesco / Argos tv's we went for a Tecos's Technica 19". A week later it went back to Tesco's for a full refund. Very slow response time, poor digital tuner, and faulty pixels were the main problems Oh yes, and the sound was rubbish!
Went and bought a Samsung 19" 720P HD Freeview TV and its brilliant. Samsung make fantastic LCD TV's, we have a 40" Samsung in our lounge.
I am going to have to stop coming on here and reading all these threads ..... It's costing me a flaming fortune lol
Just bought a 15.4 TV from tesco costing £99. It has a 12V power lead which I didn't expect. Looking forward to seeing if it is worth the money. The DVD version was sold out and cost £129. We have a dvd player we can use anyway so not bothered about that.
The TV you purchased from Tesco, you say it has a 12v lead, does this mean it has a separate lead or has it just got a normal 3 pin uk plug and you could convert the lead to to run off 12v.
We are looking for a new TV but mostly stay at sites with no hook up, we currently have a 12v tv but it one of the old fat square types.
Resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels means its a 16:10 screen therefore its made as "technically" a monitor not a TV. Some people won't notice the difference, but picture distortion and clarity are efffected due to the screen differences.
A True widescreen TV is 16:9, anything else is a compimise.
I have a flat screen tv bought about a year ago which I usually use just for the caravan and on mains volltage but its transformer cuts the input to 12 volts. I would like to use it when we are not on hook up but am reluctant to try it without a voltage stabiliser so the input is a steady 12 v as coming straight off the leasure battery generally is more like 14 volt and am frightened it would damage the TV . Anyone know where to get a stabiliser without costing a fortune or can tell me if I could use the tv without a stabiliser Brian T

Hi Janet
It has an external transformer with a standard 3 pin plug which converts electric to 12v that plugs into tv. The standard 12v caravan lead will plug straight into the tv as we have done and are watching it now.

Your TV will be fine your battery will only be 14V when on charge and will drop to average of 12V soon after charge. The TV will cope with a couple of volts either side of the 12V.
We have an Argos clearance warehouse near us that sells end of line goods. It's worth a look round every few weeks or so to get a good change in stock.
A year or so ago we bought a 15" flatscreen tv with built in freeview. £69.99. Bargain!!
