I think the modern melamine dinner sets are really attractive, in fact I think I like the set we use in the van better than the heavy china set we use at home!
We have a quarry stone kitchen floor and when my kids were small we lost so many plates we bought a melamine set to use instead! It was a godsend. Once they grew old enough we ventured into china again, but I still have a few melamine plates I use now and then.
